The above original Adobe Illustrator® file (right hand imge) can be sized up or down and not loose any quality. In addition, it can be saved as an EPS file and placed in a word processor, page layout or even a spread sheet. Those files can then be printed to postscript printer at the maximum resolution of that printer.

The scanned in image (on the left) cleaned up nicely in Photoshop and ImageReady, but is limited to the original size or making the image smaller. This file is also locked into a resolution when it is saved, which may or may not be the correct resolution for the printer one is using.
